Amelie Heuer-Jungemann, research group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, is awarded this year's Dozentenpreis of the Chemical Industry Fund
The “Dozentenpreis” (engl. Lecturer-Prize) is awarded of the Chemical Industry Fund (VCI) to exceptional young scientists who stand out through their scientific work and teaching activities. Amelie Heuer-Jungemann, research group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, is one of the three recipients of this year’s Dozentenpreis. The Award is one of the most esteemed and highly endowed awards in the field of chemistry talent promotion. It was awarded on the 6th of June within the “Steinheimer Gespräche”.
The VCI honors Amelie Heuer-Jungemann's outstanding achievements in research and teaching with the Lecturer Award. Dr. Amelie Heuer-Jungemann says: "This prize is a great honor and recognition of my research work. It motivates me and my team to continue pursuing our scientific goals and to develop new innovative approaches in chemistry". The laureates are nominated by members of the VCI Board of Trustees, former prize winners, or representatives of the expert committees of the German Research Foundation, and are selected through a two-stage nomination process.
About the Awardee:
Amelie Heuer-Jungemann studied Chemistry with Biochemistry at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK, and received her PhD in Biophysics from the University of Southampton in 2015. Her doctoral research focused on nanoparticle-DNA conjugates for biomedical applications. After a year as a Postdoctoral Fellow, she moved to Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich as a postdoc. In 2020, she founded her Emmy Noether research group for DNA Hybrid Nanomaterials at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried.
In her current research, Amelie Heuer-Jungemann uses DNA origami nanostructures to analyze protein-protein interactions of ligands and cell receptors in various disease contexts and to develop highly efficient biocatalysis reactors.
Amelie Heuer-Jungemann has received several accolades, including the Doctoral Prize Award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, an Emmy Noether Grant from the German Science Foundation and a highly endowed ERC Consolidator Grant in 2023. The Dozentenpreis is a significant recognition for Amelie Heuer-Jungemann's entire research group.
