Participants' meeting of the planning competition at the Max Planck Campus Martinsried
General Planner teams receive impressions and information for the development of their designs
The planning of our new research campus has attracted international interest: 48 General Planner teams, comprised of architecture and engineering firms, from across Europe have applied to take on this exciting and challenging task. The 15 teams that best met the diverse criteria were invited to participate in the competition.

On March 26, the selected teams came together for an on-site visit, where they met with representatives of the Max Planck Society, the institutes, the community of Planegg, and the further members from the expert and special category jury. A tour of the competition site provided an overview of the framework conditions in the project’s surrounding and the existing buildings. Afterwards, the central topics of the future campus were addressed in more detail: e.g. the requirements of modern, future-oriented research facilities, the importance of sustainability and the development of a livable, open science campus. There was also ample opportunity to ask questions.
Together with the extensive competition documents, the insights gained from this exchange will form the basis for the designs that the teams will develop in the coming months – for a future-oriented research campus that combines innovation, functionality and sustainability.
