Laura initiated her scientific journey at the Universidad de Salamanca, where she completed both the Bachelor's in Biotechnology and her master's degree. She pursued her Ph.D. studies under the guidance of Alberto M. Pendás at the Centro de Investigación del Cáncer in Salamanca, concentrating on meiosis and its regulatory mechanisms. Her research focused into various macromolecular structures, including the synaptonemal complex (SIX6OS1), the cohesin complex, and the spermatoproteasome (PSMA8). She joined as a postdoc in Tachibana’s lab, captivated by their pioneering work on the organization of 3D chromatin in the early embryo. Currently, her research interest is centered on exploring the interplay between the epigenetic reprogramming and the spatial organization of chromatin during fertilization. Outside the lab, Laura enjoys spending her time reading and engaging in sports such as swimming and running.
